How many stamps should a loyalty card have?

A practical way to choose the goal for your stamp card, based on visit frequency and what the reward costs you.

· 5 min read · Walaora

The number of stamps is the single most important setting in a stamp card. Too few and you give away margin; too many and customers never believe they’ll finish.

Start from visit frequency

Estimate how often a typical regular visits. If they come twice a week, an 8-stamp card is about a month of visits — close enough to feel achievable.

Then check the reward cost

Divide the cost of the reward by the number of paid visits it takes to earn it. That is your effective discount. Many cafés land between 8% and 12%.

A quick rule of thumb

  • Daily purchases (coffee, bakery): 8–10 stamps
  • Weekly services (car wash, laundry): 5–6 stamps
  • Monthly services (haircuts, treatments): 5–6 stamps with a bigger reward

Give a head start

A welcome stamp on sign-up makes the card feel already in progress. Just keep it below the goal.

Whatever you choose, watch the redemption rate after a couple of months and adjust. Changing the goal in Walaora applies to new rounds, so nobody loses stamps they’ve already earned.
